One very hot morning last month, I had the pleasure of making this portrait of Carl Davies, a Welshman, and longtime Austin resident. I have no idea how he didn't end up as a puddle on the asphalt with all his riding gear on. That incredible heat tolerance should serve him well on July 4th, as he sets out on a long journey for charity. He has registered with the Guinness Book of World Records to make the longest journey by motorcycle in a single country. 21,000 miles, riding along the outside of the lower 48 states, and crisscrossing through Lebanon, KS several times, as well. All of this in support of these two charities: Max's Ride (http://www.maxals.org) and LifeWorks (http://www.lifeworksaustin.org). And I think one of my favorite aspects of his plan is that he's going to achieve all of this in just under 4 weeks. Which is just how long he's been able to get vacation time from work, ha!
Best, best, best of luck to you, Carl! I wish you safe travels and great accomplishments!
